The Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference (GCBC) has announced that a Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, to honour the late Pope Benedict XVI. The Mass will take place at the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Accra.
The Memorial Mass is expected to draw a good turnout of Catholics from across Ghana, as well as representatives from each diocese/archdiocese as well as parishes in the Accra Archdiocese.
The GCBC has encouraged all Catholics to attend the Mass, as it provides an opportunity for the faithful to pay their respects to Pope Benedict and to reflect on his legacy.
The Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference was established in 1959 and serves as the main governing body for the Catholic Church in Ghana. It is made up of all the bishops of the country and is responsible for overseeing the spiritual and administrative needs of the Catholic community.
The Memorial Mass for Pope Benedict XVI is open to all and is expected to begin at 10:00 AM on February 6 at the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Accra.
Pope Benedict XVI, who served as the head of the Roman Catholic Church from 2005 to 2013, passed away on February 28, 2013, at the age of 85. He was widely recognized for his deep commitment to the Church and his efforts to promote peace and justice throughout the world.
