Nana, Greetings from Osu!

I know the Church Triumphant is praying for us. Thanks a lot for all you do, so that, someday we can also join. Back here in Ghana, the Church Militant is moving. We cannot complain but do the little we can do to make Ghana a better place.

Nana, this letter is to thank you for the reply and the adorable words of encouragement you gave. Wow… they were apt!

Nana, I know you may say I’m exaggerating but this isn’t so. What I learnt profoundly was this. Each of us is WONDERFULLY MADE, UNIQUE AND IMPORTANT but we aren’t INDISPENSABLE.

Even if, we refuse to do the will of God, oh, He can cause whoever He wants to take up the mantle. Yesterday, David was anointed King by Samuel not because He was the best according to human standards but according to the will of God. This was occasioned by the fact that Saul, the first King of Israel was rejected by God (1 Samuel 16).

Nana, if I refuse to do the will of God as Parish Priest of St. James Catholic Church, Osu, God would even bring more docile and obedient priests to serve His will here. Oh yes! The earlier we learn these the better. I may think I am good but I tell you there are BETTER AND GREATER PRIESTS.

At the end of the day the most important thing is this. Know that you are loved by God and He has placed you at a place not to hype yourself, or feel big or better than anyone else. You are there because, He wants you there, to fulfil His will.

Discern it! NEVER EVER THINK YOU ARE INDISPENSABLE. Those who may succeed you are people you haven’t even thought of. Imagine, none of those in the cohort of Saul was chosen to succeed him but a young “shepherd” boy 🤔 in Bethlehem. God does great things!

Oh, this goes to us all in the Church Militant, not to only priests. Whatever you are doing for the Lord, please do with all your heart. Whether as Choristers, Ushers, Mass-Servers, PPC, etc, do with all your strength, soul, mind and heart. In fact, GIVE THY WHOLE SELF to God as a fragrant offering.

Nana, please pray for Msgrs. Nkuah-Boateng, Asare and Louis. Pray for each of us, I beg. We need it.

On that note, I’m off to prepare for evening Mass as we commemorate the Solemnity of St. Joseph, the Husband of Mary. Please, remember HUSBANDS in your prayers so that they do not STRESS their wives. Prosper them, O Lord!
I love you, Nana.

Kwaku Obeng

Pentecost Sunday - Solemnity

Acts of the Apostles 2,1-11.

When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled, they were all in one place together.
And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the... entire house in which they were.
Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them.
And they were all filled with the holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim.
Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven staying in Jerusalem.
At this sound, they gathered in a large crowd, but they were confused because each one heard them speaking in his own language.
They were astounded, and in amazement they asked, "Are not all these people who are speaking Galileans?
Then how does each of us hear them in his own native language?
We are Parthians, Medes, and Elamites, inhabitants of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,
Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the districts of Libya near Cyrene, as well as travelers from Rome,
both Jews and converts to Judaism, Cretans and Arabs, yet we hear them speaking in our own tongues of the mighty acts of God."
