Father General of the Congregation of the Society of Jesus, Rev. Fr. Arturo Sosa, SJ has appointed Ghanaian Jesuit, Fr. John Kobina Ghansah, SJ, as the new Provincial of the North-West Africa Province of the Society of Jesus.
Until his appointment, Fr. John Ghansah was the Socius to the Provincial.
In the Society of Jesus, the Socius is the assistant or second-in-command to the Provincial, who is the leader of a geographic region or “province” within the Society.
The Socius serves as a key advisor to the Provincial and helps to manage the affairs of the province. They may have responsibilities for overseeing specific areas of the province, such as education or pastoral ministry, and may also serve as a liaison between the Provincial and other members of the Society.
The role of the Socius is an important one within the Society of Jesus, as they play a key part in helping to ensure the effective functioning of the province and the fulfillment of its mission.
Before his role as Socius, he was the rector of Hekima University College in Nairobi, Kenya.
Fr. Ghansah is a Jesuit with a wealth of experience in governance, forming of Jesuits, and Ignatian spirituality.
