The Diocese of Sekondi-Takoradi has announced plans to convene a Diocesan Synod on the Youth under the theme “Building a Synodal Church: The Role of the Catholic Youth.”
The synod, which is scheduled to take place from November 14, 2023, to November 19, 2023, was announced by Bishop John Baptist Attakruh in a statement released by the Bishop’s Secretariat.
Bishop Attakruh, highlighting the dwindling number of the Catholic population in the diocese, noted that effective youth formation and ministry were essential components of pastoral ministry.
He added that the synod would help the Diocese better respond to the challenges facing the Catholic Church in the Diocese.
In his statement, Bishop Attakruh also urged the Clergy, Religious, and Lay Faithful, especially the youth, to actively participate in the preparation of the synod and to pray for its success.
The Bishop has also established a Synod Preparatory Commission to oversee the planning and celebration of the synod.
The synod will be launched on Easter Sunday, April 9, 2023, at Mary, ‘Star of the Sea’ Cathedral in Takoradi, and all parishes throughout the Diocese will launch the synod at Mass on April 16, 2023, the Second Sunday of Easter.
The Bishop commended the Diocesan Synod on the Youth to the patronage of Mary, ‘Star of the Sea.’
