On April 8th, 2023, members of the Sacred Heart Cathedral Parish in Ho, Ghana, visited the male and female prisons of the Ho Central Prisons to spread love and kindness during the Easter season.
Led by Cathedral Administrator Rev. Fr. Isaac Benuyenah, the group donated various items to the prisoners as part of their Easter Charity mission.
The visit was inspired by the biblical passage in Matthew 25:36, which reads, “I was in prison, and you came to visit me.” The parishioners used the visit to show support and bring comfort to those they noted are often forgotten or neglected in society.
The donated items included food, clothing, and toiletries among others.
Rev. Fr. Benuyenah expressed his joy and gratitude to the administration of the prison for the opportunity to share the day with the prisoners. He emphasized that the visit was not just about donating items but also about spreading hope and reminding the prisoners that they are not alone.
The officers in charge of the correctional facility, expressed their gratitude for the visit and the donations. They called on well-meaning residents of the region among others to come to the aid of the facility. The revealed that small acts of kindness extended to the inmates has a great deal of impact on their lives as it gives them hope for a better future.
The visit to the Ho prisons was a reminder of the importance of giving back to the community, especially to those who are often marginalized or forgotten. The Sacred Heart Cathedral Parish hopes to continue to make a positive impact in the lives of the prisoners and the wider community.
