A total of 29 candidates from the two Gbefi towns namely Tornu (Sacred Heart Catholic Church) and Hoeme (Holy Spirit Catholic Church) were admitted to First Holy Communion on Divine Mercy Sunday on April 16, 2023, held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Gbefi Tornu.
The candidates are children prepared through catechism.
In a homily, Rev. Fr. David Seyram Addo, an Associate Priest of the Parish, encouraged the congregation to trust in the mercy of God and reflect it in their daily relationship with one another.
He stated that Divine Mercy Sunday celebrates the love and mercy of the Triune God through the passion and death of Jesus Christ, with the goal of remitting the sins of many who believe in Jesus and are ready to make reparations for their sins.
Rev. Fr. Addo exhorted them to be ambassadors of Christ’s mercy and peace in the country, their homes and the church, and in their own hearts.
Highlighting the “Peace” that Jesus grants his apostles in the day’s Gospel reading from John 20:19-31, the homilist said, to be merciful, we need to be people of peace, and this requires charitable forgiveness of the wrongs of one another.
He noted that from the mercy of God comes His forgiveness and peace and urged the faithful to remain in the Church.
The day which was also observed by the members of the Sacred Heart of Jesus within the Parish was preceded by a Novena to Divine Mercy.
It was characterised by socialisation and joy.
The parish has 12 outstations with Very Rev. Fr. Clemence Ashiara as the Parish Priest and Rev. Frs. Francis Agala and David Seyram Addo as Associate Priests.
