LESSON 2:
‘START WITH WHAT YOU HAVE… START ‘BIARA BIARA SAA’’
Sometimes when you compare yourself to other established ministers or workers of God (or your mentors and admirers in ministry), you may not feel adequate to step out to help.
When I started, I wasn’t really the leader of people type. I couldn’t really stand in front of people to share any ‘sensible’ knowledge. I was nowhere close to the ‘wild’ prayer warriors, or ‘bible quotation spewing’ teachers or the melodious singers or any of the ‘gbeye’ traditional ministry workers at the time. All I had was this ‘yoyo’ dude who enjoyed secular music a lot and knew all the latest dance at that time.
When I started with drama & choreography, it was wonderful that once a while there were dance opportunities during some major activities on campus. As I already shared, I didn’t really enjoy that type of ‘church choreography’ dancing but the fellowship complemented it. This is how I got into the work of God…’biara biara saa bi.’ I guess my dislike for that type of dancing could have kept me on the sidelines and who knows if I would have gotten this far.
And the more I got involved, the more God trusted me with more gifts. To the glory of God, I may have started with dancing but later, the gifts of teaching, leading, prayer, evangelism, impartation even singing are available now, and even more. These gifts have taken me places, brought before big men and women, made me a little popular in my Catholic community and given me opportunities I don’t think a secular job would have done…
Key take aways:
1. Everybody has something God can use to brighten this world, howbeit small
2. Be faithful with little and God will multiply
3. Don’t wait to see before you start, just start and I’m sure you will surely see
4. When it gets uncomfortable, just give it time…don’t quit too soon
5. Admire others, desire to be like them, but remember that you have your own journey to make that begins with a first step… don’t delay it for tomorrow
Ex 4:2-3 “And the Lord asked him, what is that in your hand? He said ” a staff.” The Lord said, “throw it to the ground.” Moses threw it on the ground and it became a snake…”
