As part of its 25th anniversary celebrations, Mary Mother of Good Counsel School in Airport West has made a donation to the Legacy of Hope project.
The school children raised a total of 25,680.50 cedis, with 20,295 cedis coming from their Lenten boxes during the period of Lent 2023, and 5,385.50 cedis from collections during school masses over a period of time.
The cheque was presented to Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSp., Metropolitan Archbishop of the Accra Archdiocese and founder of the Legacy of Hope Project, received the donations on behalf of the management committee of the project.
The financial administrator of the Archdiocese, Very Rev. Fr. John Neumann Tettehfio was also in attendance, along with the headmistress of the school, Sr. Francisca Asiedua Appiah, the local manager, some teachers, and a special class of Class 6 Rosewood, who contributed the highest.
The Archbishop expressed his appreciation to the PTA and school children for their sacrifice and generosity, and emphasized that teaching children the act of giving in the current era is crucial.
He noted that the donation will go a long way in supporting the Legacy of Hope project, which aims to help underprivileged children in Ghana, by providing them with access to education, healthcare, and other basic needs.
Speaking at the event, the headmistress, Sr. Francisca Asiedua Appiah expressed her pride in the school children for their efforts and emphasized the importance of giving back to society. She encouraged other schools to follow in the footsteps of Mary Mother of Good Counsel School and to instill in their students the values of kindness, compassion, and generosity.
The Legacy of Hope project is a significant project being undertaken by the Accra Archdiocese under the leadership of Archbishop John Bonaventure Kwofie CSSp.
The project will impact in the lives of underprivileged children in Ghana, and has since its launch in 2022, received various donations from different societies, organizations, groups and individuals to help achieve the goals of the project.
The Mary Mother of Good Counsel School community takes pride making a donation to the project with the hope of making tangible differences in the lives of those less fortunate when the project is fully implemented.
Background
On January 16, 2022, the Archbishop launched the “Legacy of Hope” projects in the Archdiocese with the subsequent sod-cutting of the Children’s Hospital on Tuesday, January 18 at Atomic-Kwabenya, which is first of the Legacy of Hope Projects .
The Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, however announced on April 2, the relocation of site for a children’s hospital project by the Archdiocese with the new site for the project as Adjen Kotoku.
The project is one of many, under the auspices of the Archdioceses of Accra under the umbrella “The Legacy of Hope (LoH) Project”.
Phase one of the project which will comprise of a 100-bed capacity medical block and the ground floor of the maternity unit, is estimated at 2 million dollars.
