On Wednesday, 14th June 2023, the Knights of St. John International and Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Accra West Grand Commandery demonstrated their commitment to serving others by embarking on a Charity Project at the Catholic Hospital Battor. The presentation was led by Grand Presidents Brigadier General Edward Kofi Dabi and Respected President Noble Sister Petrina Coker.
During the visit, the delegation presented a valuable LS-B 100L VERTICAL PRESSURE STEAM STERILIZER to the Catholic Hospital Battor at a cost of approximately GHC 40,000.00. This much-needed equipment is expected to address some of the hospital’s challenges in sterilizing its medical instruments.
The Charity Project was initiated in response to a call from the hospital, appealing to well-meaning societies and individuals for assistance in acquiring medical equipment that would enable them to carry out their duties more effectively.
In her remarks, the Respected Grand President expressed her admiration for the hospital’s exceptional and impactful work within the community and beyond. She emphasized that it was only fitting for the Knights and Ladies’ to support such a noble cause, thus culminating in the donation witnessed on this blessed day.
Mr. Donatus Duncan Adaletey, the Administrator of the Catholic Hospital Battor, conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to the Knights and Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Accra West Grand Commandery for their generous gesture. He acknowledged the urgent need for a sterilizing machine and assured the delegation that the donated equipment would be used for its intended purpose.
As part of the visit, the delegation had the privilege of touring the hospital facilities, led by Deputy Nurse Manager Mr. Charles Atitso. One notable highlight of the tour was the Cervical Cancer Prevention and Training Centre, where the Nurse in charge, Ethel Tekper, enlightened the visitors on the causes of Cervical Cancer and stressed the importance of early reporting for effective treatment. She further emphasized that Cervical Cancer often presents no visible symptoms, underscoring the necessity for both boys and girls to receive vaccinations as a preventive measure.
Brigadier General Edward Kofi Dabi, the Grand President, expressed his appreciation for the hospital’s dedicated healthcare services to the community. He pledged that this partnership with the hospital would lead to further visits and engagements in the near future.
