Work on a pediatric hospital project by the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra has commenced in earnest following the handing over of project site to Antartic Limited, a leading construction company in the country.
The Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, together with his Auxiliaries cut sod for the commencement of the project at Adjen Kotoku, a suburb of Accra on July 11.
In April this year, the Archbishop announced the relocation of site for a children’s hospital project by the Archdiocese.
Archbishop Kwofie noted that the move became necessary due to “contractual obligations with the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission at the site that was given to the Church to start this project.”
“We are still in talks with the Commission, to negotiate new terms for this parcel of land. We will share more updates, as and when we make progress,” the letter added.
The Archbishop assured that due diligence has been completed for the new site and resources were being mobilised to complete site tests and acquire the necessary permits for the commencement of the project.
The initiative which was to be situated around the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission in the Kpehe Deanery will now be in the heart of Adjen Kotoku, a suburb of Accra, off the main Accra-Kumasi road.
This stretch of land is the property of the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra, and sits within the Kaneshie Deanery, under the Adjen-Kotoku community of St. Peter Catholic Church.
Phase one of the project which will comprise of a 100-bed capacity medical block and the ground floor of the maternity unit, is estimated at 2 million dollars.
