In an anticipated solemn ceremony to be filled with joy and reverence, 14 candidates will be ordained as priests at the 2023 Accra Archdiocesan Priestly Ordination to be held Saturday, July 15, 2023.
The event will take place at the Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish, Dansoman, and will see family, friends, and members of the clergy gathered to witness the ordination of these new servants of God.
The 14 Deacons, who had dedicated years of study, prayer, and discernment, are finally ready to take on the sacred responsibility of serving the faithful and spreading the teachings of the Catholic Church and will be ordained into the presbytery of priests by His Grace, Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSp., the Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra.
Per the Canons of the Church and guidelines for Priestly Ordinations, the candidates are expected to pledge their willingness to submit to the authority of the Pope vested in the Archbishop and his successors, express their unwavering commitment to the Lord and their willingness to devote their lives to His service.
They will also declare their resolve to abide by the dictates of their calling by pledging to the three evangelical counsels of chastity, poverty, and obedience.
Eleven of the candidates for the ordination belong to the Accra Archdiocese; two are Salesians of Don Bosco, and one is from the Archdiocese of Parakou, Benin.
The Deacons for the Archdiocese are Rev. Derrick Senyo Abbey of St. Dominic Catholic Church, Taifa; Rev. Raymond Lord Ampong of St. Michael Catholic Church, Michel Camp; Rev. Julius Kofi Dela Gemadzie of St. Dominic Catholic Church, Mallam; Rev. Maxwell Kwame Azaglo of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Weija; Rev. Gabriel Edem Datsomor of St. Kizito Catholic Church, Nima; Rev. Jonas Abaifar Dong-Purye of St. Thomas Aquinas Chaplaincy, Legon and Rev. David Osei Dwumfour of St. Martin Catholic Church, Teshie Camp.
Others include Rev. Clement Quagraine of St. Stephen Catholic Church in Darkuman; Rev. Joseph Effah Siaw of St. Dominic Catholic Church, Taifa; Rev. Theophilus T. Ntiri-Andoh Jnr of Martyrs of Uganda Catholic Church, in Mamprobi and Rev. Bernard J. Asamoah Kwarteng of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Dansoman Last Stop.
The rest are Rev. Peter Abeku Dughan, Rev. Fritz Mario Frederick Nii Ekue, Salesians of Don Bosco, and Rev. Martin Bamelinam from the Archdiocese of Parakou, Benin.
