Auxiliary Bishop of Accra, Most Rev. John Kobina Louis has cautioned Catechists to desist from fielding unqualified candidates for confirmation.
According to the Bishop, although the minimum age for confirmation is 13, some candidates presented at some parishes are below the age of 13.
He added that on some occasions too, the candidates, although qualified in terms of age, do not have that sacrament of baptism which is a requirement before confirmation.
The Bishop was speaking at this year’s Catechists’ Day Celebration over the weekend at the St. Bakhita Catholic Church in Accra.
Bishop Louis urged Catechists to do proper checks before presenting candidates for confirmation while adding that the appropriate authority should be contacted in cases where priests compel them to field such candidates.
