The Noble Order of the Knights and Ladies of Marshall, a Catholic-friendly society of the Catholic Church has reached out to flood victims at Mepe in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region.
Through its Marshallan Relief and Development Service (MAREDES), the Noble Order donated relief items worth GhC40,000 on Friday, October 20.
The relief items include bags of rice, cooking oil, beverages, drinking water, clothing, bedding and hygiene materials.
The Chairman of MAREDES Dr. Andre Kwasi-Kumah led the delegation, including the Tema Regional officers to present the items to the Parochial Vicar of St. Maria Gorretti Catholic Church, Rev. Fr Emmanuel Akordor SVD.
Rev. Fr. Akordor who received the items expressed his appreciation to the Noble Order for the great humanitarian gesture.
He promised that the items would be fairly distributed to all affected persons.
The Chairman of MAREDES, Dr. Andre Kwasi-Kumah noted that the items were mobilised as a temporal measure to alleviate the untold hardships brought to the people of the towns affected by the spillage of the Akosombo Dam.
He further called on all to come to the aid of the flood victims.
The recent spillage of the Akosombo Dam has wreaked havoc on 11 communities in Volta, Eastern and Greater Accra Regions destroying properties running into millions of cedis and displacing about 30,000 residents who are currently seeking refuge in classrooms and with relatives.
