The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference has announced a donation of hundred thousand cedis to victims of the recent dam spillage.
The amount, according to President of the Conference, Most Rev. Mathew Gyamfi, would be donated by the Secretary General, Very Rev. Fr. Clement Kwasi Adjei, from the Solidarity Fund of the Conference.
The donation will be facilitated by Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie and Most Rev. Gabriel Edoe Kumordji.
Bishop Gyamfi is also urging his fellow Archbishops and Bishops to mobilize relief items such as food, water, clothing, and toiletries from their parishes and institutions to aid the victims while appreciating efforts of prelates in charge of the Archdiocese of Accra and the Keta-Akatsi Diocese for their contributions so far.
“We appreciate the swift response of Archbishop Kwofie and Bishop Kumordji, who have already shown their support for the flood victims,” Most Rev. Mathew Gyamfi said.
“We must come together in these trying times to assist those affected by the dams’ spillage. We call on all to contribute generously to help the most vulnerable,” the statement dated October 20 further said.
He noted that to ensure a coordinated approach, the relief items, both in cash and kind, should be channeled through the National Catholic Secretariat and reach them no later than the end of November.
