Members of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC) have concluded a week-long retreat at the Retreat Centre within the Pastoral Centre in Sunyani.
The spiritual gathering served as the prelude to the Annual Plenary Assembly of the GCBC, hosted by the Sunyani Diocese under the auspices of Most Rev. Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, Bishop of the Sunyani Diocese and President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC). Led by Rev. Fr. Alphonse Amanor, SVD, the retreat was a pivotal component of the Annual Plenary Assembly, providing prelates with moments of reflection, prayer, and communal worship. The spiritual ambiance was enriched by performances of students’ choirs from St. James Seminary Senior High School and Notre Dame Senior High School during the retreat’s Eucharistic Celebrations.
As part of their 2023 Retreat and Plenary Assembly in Sunyani, members of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference also visited the Bui Hydroelectric Dam site.
Following the successful conclusion of the retreat, the Bishops kickstarted their Plenary Assembly with an opening ceremony held on Monday, November 13, 2023. This assembly serves as a platform for bishops to discuss and deliberate on matters of significance within the Catholic Church in Ghana, as well as broader issues impacting the holistic development of the country, including education, the economy, and corruption.
The impact of the retreat, coupled with the commencement of the Plenary Assembly, underscores the commitment of the Ghana Catholic Bishops to the spiritual well-being and growth of the Church in Ghana and provides a platform for the Bishops to add their voice to topical national issues of concern.
The upcoming days promise a convergence of thoughtful dialogue, prayerful reflection, and collaborative efforts to further the mission of the Catholic Church in Ghana, reflecting the ongoing dedication of the GCBC to the holistic development and spiritual nurturing of its community.
