Members of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference have challenged the Nana Akufo-Addo led Government as well past Governments under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to provide answers to the current sorry economic state of the country.
According to the Bishops, Ghana continuous to retrogress in its economic gains despite the discovery of oil and gold among other natural resources the country is blessed with.
Speaking in Sunyani at the opening of the 2023 Plenary Assembly of the Bishops, President of the Conference, Most Rev. Mathew Gyamfi, challenged the governments to provide explanations for the unfavorable agreements signed regarding oil, minerals, and power generation in the country.
“Can the governments explain to us why we are in this economic mess? What explanations can the two political parties give to Ghanaians for the unfavorable agreements we sign on our oil, minerals, power generation etc.? Countries who have these resources in abundance are rich. Why do we remain poor? Ghanaians no longer accept the old explanations that Governments of Ghana have been giving,” Bishop Gyamfi said.
