The International Movement of Catholic Students, IMCS PAX ROMANA GHANA FEDERATION has launched it’s 75th anniversary on Sunday, November 26, 2023 at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church, Lashibi during the climax of the 2023 Annual National Executive Congress(ANEC) which took place from Thursday November 23 to Sunday November, 2023 at the Catholic Youth Formation Centre in the Archdiocese of Accra to celebrate the gains made by the movement over the years even as it strategizes for the future of the movement.
IMCS PAX ROMANA GHANA FEDERATION, an association of all Catholics pursuing any academic programmes in tertiary institutions in Ghana, has its membership cutting across almost all tertiary institutions in Ghana both public and private. The movement started as St. Thomas Aquinas Society in Ghana, the then University College of Gold Coast now University of Ghana Legon in 1949.
The Annual National Executive Council (ANEC) is a meeting that affords the leadership of the movement to take stock of it’s activities and plan for the future. Annual reports were presented by various locals/institutions as well as the National Report.
The meeting also afforded members to elect new National Executives with Noah Djokoto, UPSA Alumnus emerge as the new President, Abraham Frank from St. Paul’s Major Seminary, Sowutoum as Vice President and Anthony Da-Silveira also from St.Paul’s Major Seminary, Sowutoum as General Secretary.
Derrick Amegbletor University of Ghana Alumnus as Financial Secretary, Elvis Kakah from UPSA as Organizer and Victoria Tali from UEW Ajumako as Lady’s Commissioner.
The anniversary which will come off in 2024 will be on the theme: 75 YEARS OF OUR EXISTENCE IN GHANA, LIVING OUR FAITH THAT CHRIST MAY BE IN ALL, MY ROLE AS A CATHOLIC INTELLECTUAL IN THE LIGHT OF THE SYNODALITY OF THE CHURCH.
The 75th anniversary will feature activities such as charity donations, Blood donations and Health Screening, Choralfest dubbed Peace Concert to advocate for Peace before, during and after the 2024 General Election of Ghana, Pax in Praise among others.
The anniversary Launch was witnessed by representatives from all locals/institutions across the country, Current and Former Executives, Alumni and Parishioners of St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church Lashibi.
Nicholas W.K Kodzo, Anniversary Planning Committee Chairman said PAX ROMANA is a household name and one of the largest denominational groups in universities.
The movement according to the Anniversary planning committee Chairman has made substantial contribution to the human resource needs of the country and has called on both alumni, Students and all well wishers to come on board to mark a this remarkable Diamond Jubilee Celebration.
