Following the passing of Prof. Steve Kofi Mensah Ahiawordor, a respected figure in the Political Science Department of the University of Ghana, the family of the late professor has released details of the funeral arrangements to honor and bid farewell to the departed academic.
He breathed his last on November 14, 2023 at the University of Ghana Medical Centre.
The funeral events are scheduled as follows:
Friday, 9th February, 2024: A Pre-burial Mass will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, UG, Legon, starting at 7 am. This event is expected to draw colleagues, students, and well-wishers who have been impacted by Prof. Ahiawordor’s contributions to the academic community.
Saturday, 10th February, 2024: The Burial Mass will take place at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Dzodze, commencing at 9 am. This location holds significance, as it is the hometown of the late professor. The ceremony is expected to be attended by family members, friends, and community members who wish to pay their respects.
Sunday, 11th February, 2024: A Thanksgiving Mass will be held at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Dzodze, beginning at 9 am. This service will provide an opportunity for the community to express gratitude for the life and legacy of Prof. Ahiawordor.
Sunday, 18th February, 2024: Another Thanksgiving Mass will be conducted at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, UG, Legon, starting at 7 am.
Prof. Steve Ahiawordor was a lawyer with a strong affiliation to the opposing National Democratic Congress (NDC) political party.
Prof. Ahiawordor was also known for being a board member of the National Health Insurance Authority, (NHIA) under the late Atta Mills administration, later joining the board at the Bulk Oil Storage and Transport Company (BOST) under the administration of the former President, John Dramani Mahama.
Specializing in foreign policy, his research works were also divulged in Ghana’s political sphere, with special focus on presidential and primary elections over the past few years.
He was a member of the Knights and Ladies of Marshall.
