A priest of the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra, Rev. Fr. John Patrick Tindana has said he has a strong feeling the senior national football team of Ghana, Black Stars is battling a spiritual crises calling for an urgent spiritual intercession for the team.
The priest, a strong Black Stars supporter, took to Facebook after the Stars’ embarrassing defeat at the opening game of the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in neighboring Côte d’Ivoire saying that “I have a strong feeling the Black Stars is going though spiritual crisis. We must intercede for the team.”
According to Fr. Tindana, it would have been expedient for Muslim and Christian players alike to be asked to go for special prayers for God’s blessings ahead of their second game against Egypt.
He asked for the intercession of St. Michael the Archangel to defend and protect the Stars.
Despite a disappointing defeat to Cape Verde in Ghana’s first Group B match at the ongoing AFCON tournament, some Ghanaian fans are still optimistic of a better performance in the next game against Egypt on today.
One of such people is a priest of the Sekondi-Takoradi Diocese of Ghana, Fr. Emmanuel Dolphyne who is on his way to Côte d’Ivoire to support the Black Stars in what could be described as the game that decides their future in the tournament.
“When you believe in the Black Stars. Enroute to Ivory Coast for the love of Ghana,” he wrote on Facebook.
Defeat in their first game of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) means the Black Stars find themselves in a tricky situation heading into their next game against Egypt.
Ghana will face Egypt in their second game in the competition looking to bounce back from the shocking loss to Cape Verde.
Meanwhile, Black Stars head coach, Chris Hughton says his team’s level has to be higher against Egypt than it was against Cape Verde.
He said this in a press conference ahead of Ghana’s game against Egypt
“Our level has to be higher. We are playing on paper, a very good side, a better team. So we know our levels got to be better,” coach Hughton said.
