Living with my resplendent and agile grandmother, I have learnt the basic truth to unlock every blessing. That is, by simply respecting the elderly & our parent. My grandmother blesses me anytime am about to go to school and about to undertake a task. In fact, she will school me.
Today, I can say that am exactly the product of her blessings. Why? Because I respected her & heeded to her pieces of advice. You can also unlock your blessing by respecting your parent & the elderly. I assure you, you will become the product of such blessings through their offering of fervid prayers each day. Yes!!! You will become exactly that.
However, we live in a period respecting parent and the elderly seems to be lost. Not just lost, but a taboo. The world preaches, “ curse is he or she who respects parent & the elderly”. We justify our disrespect on the basis of education, equal rights, justice, modernity & labelling.
We label them as witches, wizards, enemies of progress and you name the rest. This is not surprising as some men of God have painted our parent & besmirch them to us to the extent that we wish them nothing but suffering & shameful death coupled with loneliness & sadness.
Gone are the days we gave our seats to the elderly, never insulted them, carried their heavy loads, fetch water for them to bath, wash their cloths and bathe them(the aged & sick), polished their shoes and ironed their clothing, ever ready to run errands for their usual ‘nyame nhyira o’ and obeyed their commands come what may.
Why do you wrongly presume you can do it without your parent blessings? You need it and if you weren’t aware, then, be informed. Several instances can be used to testify to this truth. Many are they who have ignored their parent & married, without the fruit of the womb and we can still counts those who need the forgiveness and blessings of their parent in order to be restored to good health and success in life.
Don’t be lured, deceived, supported and encouraged by anyone, even angels from above, to disrespect your parent and the elderly. Read Exodus 20:12, “ Honor (respect) your father and mother, that your days may be long…” and Ephesians 6:1-3, “ Children, obey your parent in the Lord, for this, is right and that it .ay be well with you and you may live long on the earth”.
Respecting parents and the elderly, from scripture, is the first commandment of God with a promise. What is the promise? That we may live long and have wellness of life.
I challenge you today as I challenge myself, that, we all start to respect our parents and the elderly to unlock our blessings. Let us respect our parents and the elderly so that God may not strike us and the earth with a curse (cf. Malachi 4:6).
