Rev. Fr. Raphael Alex Selorm Akpah, a dedicated priest of the Catholic Diocese of Ho, Ghana, has been awarded a PhD in Sociology from the prestigious University of Ghana.
His academic journey culminated in the conferral of this esteemed degree on January 23, 2024, marking a significant milestone in his quest for knowledge and service to humanity.
Fr. Raphael Alex Selorm Akpah’s academic journey reflects a lifelong dedication to learning and intellectual growth.
Having pursued philosophy at the St. Paul’s Seminary, Sowutoum and theology at the St. Peter’s Regional Seminary in Pedu, Cape Coast, he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Religions from the University of Ghana, Legon, in 2003.
Fr. Akpah pursued a Post Graduate Diploma in Education from the University of Cape Coast in 2005 and a Master of Education from the University of Education, Winneba, in 2014.
Ordained as a priest in July 2006, Fr. Akpah has seamlessly balanced his pastoral duties with a commitment to academic excellence. His diverse assignments within the Catholic Church include serving as an Associate Priest at St. Peter’s Parish Vakpo, Cathedral Administrator, and Priest-in-Charge at St. Michael Catholic Church, Tsito.
He has also contributed significantly as a chaplain and teacher at various educational institutions, including the University of Ghana, Tsito Campus, Awudome Senior High School, and OLA Senior High School, Ho.
Undeterred by the demands of his pastoral responsibilities, Fr. Akpah embarked on a rigorous academic journey, enrolling for a PhD in Sociology in the 2017/2018 academic year at the University of Ghana.
He completed his doctoral studies in the 2022/2023 academic year, successfully defending his thesis and earning the coveted title of Doctor of Philosophy.
