In his Saturday reflection, Rev. Fr. Mark Mandela Anyigbah said Jesus calls on all Christians to be as perfect as the Father in Heaven, with reference to the day’s Gospel reading taken from Matthew 5:43-45, 48.
Fr. Mandela asks if Jesus is demanding too much, and how they as Christians can be as perfect as God (the Father), whose nature is perfection.
The Priest went on to say that God’s love for us is beyond human description and understanding, and He wants us to strive hard to reflect on this love in our lives.
“He created us in his own image and likeness; in the image of love and he does not expect anything less from us. Once God is calling us to this perfection, it equally means it is possible for us to get there. Not with our own strength though; his grace has been poured into our hearts abundantly”, he emphasized.
In conclusion of his Saturday, February 24, reflection, Fr. Mandela urged all Christians to see this call to perfection as a gradual process of spiritual growth. He also said they must see each day as a step upward on the path to this perfection, adding that they are always a work in progress and must get better as time goes by.
