Ghana’s former Deputy Minister of Education in charge of pre-tertiary education and former Member of Parliament for Techiman North, Hon. Alex Kyeremeh has said it is time for the Catholic Church in Ghana to be concerned about the grooming of Catholics who aspire to be politicians as well as already practicing Catholic Politicians in the West African Country.
According to Hon. Kyeremeh, the move will not only ensure that responsible individuals serve the country in public offices but also give the Episcopal Conference of Ghana the opportunity to use its members who are politicians to influence policies and law-making processes to the benefit of humanity.
Using the recently passed anti-LGBT Bill and abortion rights as examples, the Former Minister noted that it would be easier for the Bishops’ Conference to rally Catholics from all political parties to push for laws in tandem with the social teachings of the Church.
Speaking in an interview with Catholic Trends, Hon. Kyeremeh urged the Episcopal Conference of Ghana to embark on periodic engagement of Catholic politicians in the country.
