The Konongo-Mampong Diocese is in a state of anticipation following the announcement of the forthcoming visit of His Excellency Henryk Mieezyslaw Jagodzinski, the Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana, to the Diocese.
Most Rev. Bishop Joseph Osei-Bonsu (76), the revered shepherd of the Diocese, has stirred anticipation with a recent announcement of the Nuncio’s imminent visit to the Diocese.
In a letter addressed to the Clergy, Religious, and Lay Faithful of the Konongo-Mampong Diocese, Most Rev. Osei-Bonsu revealed that “His Excellency, Henryk Mieezyslaw Jagodzinski, the Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana, will be gracing the Konongo-Mampong Diocese with his presence next week.”
The announcement detailed plans for a grand reception at the St. Paul’s Cathedral, Mampong, scheduled for Thursday, March 21, 2024, at 10:30 a.m.
Bishop Osei-Bonsu stated in his letter that “All priests and religious are required to attend this reception,” emphasizing the significance of the occasion.
He further urged, “Every parish or rectorate is required to send two representatives. The parishioners of the St. Paul’s Cathedral, Mampong, are encouraged to come in their numbers.”
The revelation of the Nuncio’s impending visit has ignited curiosity among the faithful, drawing parallels with past significant events in other dioceses.
Notably, a similar letter from the former Bishop of the Wiawso Diocese, Most Rev. Joseph Francis Kweku Essien, preceded the appointment of the then Rev. Father Samuel Nkuah-Boateng as the new Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Wiawso.
Likewise, a letter from the Archbishop of Accra, Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, heralded the appointment of two Auxiliary Bishops in Accra. These historical precedents have added to the anticipation surrounding the upcoming visit to Konongo-Mampong.
A parishioner of the St. Paul’s Cathedral-Mampong (name withheld) articulated the prevailing sentiment, expressing hope for positive developments within the diocese.
“I hope the meeting will be for the betterment and future as well as the good of the Diocese,” the parishioner remarked, capturing the collective optimism among the faithful.
As the Konongo-Mampong Diocese awaits the arrival of the Apostolic Nuncio, Catholic Trends will continue to provide ongoing coverage of the events, ensuring the faithful and the Church in Ghana are kept abreast of developments leading up to the significant meeting.
