The Association of Catholic Teachers (ACT) from the Konongo-Mampong Diocese has extended warm congratulations to Rev. Msgr. John Opoku-Agyemang on his appointment as the Bishop-Elect for the Diocese.
The Diocesan executives conveyed their felicitations, expressing their hopes and prayers for his successful leadership journey.
This follows the appointment of Msgr. Opoku-Agyemang as the new Bishop of the Konongo-Mampong Diocese in the Ashanti region by Pope Francis, as announced on Thursday, March 21, 2024.
In their congratulatory statement, the ACT representatives stated, “We, the Diocesan executives, would like to express these words of felicitation to you, Rev. Msgr. John Opoku-Agyemang, as the Bishop-Elect for the Diocese.”
“As the Lord anointed David as a leader, so shall He anoint you as a leader,” the statement further read.
While expressing their hopes for education within the Diocese, they expressed optimism that the new bishop would leverage his extensive leadership experience in the sector to improve education in the Diocese.
“It is our prayer and hope that the good Lord who has appointed you to lead His flock will guide your steps in everything you do, especially in the area of Education in the Diocese as a shepherd to His glory.”
The ACT representatives further expressed anticipation for the positive impact of Rev. Msgr. John Opoku-Agyemang’s leadership, stating, “May your days as a Shepherd be a blessing to us, teachers, and learners in the Diocese and the Universal Church as a whole.”
Highlighting the significance of his teaching experience, they expressed confidence that it would serve him well in his new role.
“We hope and trust that your rich experience in teaching would go a long way to guide the shepherd role entrusted to you by the Holy See.”

Msgr. John Opoku-Agyemang is a lifelong educationist who has served in multiple roles encompassing both academic and pastoral domains. With a rich educational background, including a Doctor of Ministry in Pastoral Theology from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota, a Master of Divinity in Theological Studies from the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas, and a Diploma in Clinical Pastoral Education from the same institution, his academic journey reflects a deep commitment to theological education and pastoral formation.
His philosophical studies at St. Peter’s Major Seminary in Cape Coast, Ghana, laid a solid foundation for his subsequent academic pursuits and ministerial endeavors.
In his distinguished career, Rev. Msgr. John Opoku-Agyemang has held notable teaching positions, notably as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Religious Studies at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi. In this capacity, he has contributed significantly to the academic and intellectual growth of students, imparting knowledge and insights into religious and theological studies.
Msgr. Opoku-Agyemang has served as a Director and Instructor for the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) program at Most Holy Trinity Parish in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, where he contributed to educating adults in the Catholic faith, nurturing their spiritual development, and facilitating their integration into the Church community.
He was until his appointment as bishop, a Formator and Rector at St. Gregory the Great Provincial Major Seminary in Parkoso, Kumasi, where his leadership in shaping the formation and education of future clergy, coupled with extensive educational experience demonstrated his commitment to the holistic development of individuals preparing for ministry within the Catholic Church.
