Auxiliary Bishop of Accra and Bishop in charge of the youth, Most Rev. Anthony Narh Asare has called upon the youth of the Archdiocese of Accra -Ghana, to shed their passive roles and embrace active participation and dialogue during the forthcoming 2024 Accra Archdiocesan Youth Congress.
Speaking during a discussion session at the launch of the congress held at the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Accra on March 24, Bishop Asare emphasized the critical importance of constructive participation in shaping the future of the Catholic Church.
“The youth, often noted for their vociferousness and criticism, must transcend mere commentary and actively contribute to the growth and development of the Church,” asserted Bishop Asare. “If you love Christ, you must love his Church. And if you dwell within the Church, then it is incumbent upon each of us to extend our hands in service.”
Highlighting the transformative power of dialogue, Bishop Asare underscored the educational value inherent in sharing experiences and perspectives. “Dialogue is not merely about voicing grievances; it is about mutual enlightenment,” he remarked. “Through open discourse, we broaden our horizons, enrich our understanding, and collectively strengthen our faith.”
Drawing from his own educational experiences, Bishop Asare lamented the prevalence of selfishness and urged the youth to actively participate in shaping the future of the Catholic Church. “Sitting on the fence is not an option,” he asserted.
With an impassioned call to action, Bishop Asare implored the youth to seize the opportunity presented by the upcoming youth congress. “This congress is not merely an event; it is a catalyst for change,” he declared. “By actively participating, we lay the foundation for future dialogues and initiatives that will shape the trajectory of our Church.”
The 2024 Accra Archdiocesan Youth Congress, slated to convene in the coming weeks, holds the promise of fostering a culture of active participation and dialogue among the youth, propelling the Catholic Church towards a future defined by unity, inclusivity, and shared purpose.
