Auxiliary Bishop of Accra, Most Rev. Anthony Narh Asare, has called upon the faithful, clergy and religious in the Archdiocese to embrace the message of Christ by actively serving and loving his Church.
Speaking to a congregation of clergy, religious, and lay faithful in a homily at Chrism Mass earlier today, Bishop Asare emphasized the relevance of Christ’s message in the current circumstances of the world.
He highlighted the importance of Christians embodying the mission of Christ, particularly in bringing relief to the oppressed and marginalized of society.
“The Lord has anointed us Christians to preach good news to the poor and proclaim liberty to prisoners. We need Catholic Christians who will bring relief to captives and the oppressed of our generation,” Bishop Asare proclaimed, echoing the message from Isaiah chapter 61.
Drawing from the Gospel of Luke, Bishop Asare emphasized that Jesus Christ’s appearance on the scene signaled the fulfillment of God’s promise, ushering in a time of favor and liberation for all.
He reminded the congregation of the importance of renewing their commitment to Christ’s service annually, symbolized by the Chrism Mass.
“To love the Church, we must respect our Archbishop, serve the people of God, and cherish one another in ministry,” Bishop Asare urged his fellow clergy members, emphasizing the importance of mutual respect and collaboration within the Church hierarchy.
Addressing the lay faithful, Bishop Asare challenged them to go beyond monetary donations and actively participate in Church activities, likening the care for the Church to the care for one’s own body.
“Permit me to prompt you that assisting the Church goes beyond monetary donations. We must be part of Church activities so that as we congregate for any liturgical function the Church will be alive and the Body of Christ will be healthy,” he said.
“Do we love Christ? If we do, then let us love our Church, serve our Church, feed our Church, and sacrifice for our Church,” he passionately exclaimed, quoting Ephesians 5:15-16 to underscore the urgency of living as true Christians in a world filled with challenges.
As Bishop Asare concluded his homily, he urged all present to walk circumspectly, making a positive difference in the world through their actions and unwavering commitment to the teachings of Christ.
