The Inter-Congregational Justice and Peace, and Integrity of Creation (JPIC), Ghana, a network of Missionaries and Religious men and women in Ghana, have pledged their commitment to advocate, facilitate, and promote the social teachings of the Catholic Church for justice, peace, and the care of God’s creation.
The group at their national meeting held in Kumasi from February 22nd to 25th, 2024, under the theme “Life and Dignity of the Human Person and the Rest of Creation: The Core Calling of JPIC,” embarked on deliberations aimed at solidifying collaboration among members and addressing pressing social and environmental issues facing the nation.
The keynote conversations, led by President Rev. Fr. Nicholas Aazine, SVD, and Rev. Fr. Kpanie Addy, S.J., underscored the interconnectedness of environmental protection and peacemaking.
Both speakers emphasized the importance of addressing ecological crises within the context of integral human development and the Gospel values of Jesus Christ.
Participants were urged not to view social issues in isolation but to interpret them through the lens of Gospel teachings. They were encouraged to emulate Christ’s commitment to the poor and marginalized and to take tangible actions to effect positive change in their communities.
Rev. Fr. Aazine and Rev. Fr. Addy highlighted the significance of revitalizing JPIC initiatives in light of African realities and intensifying membership drives to expand the organization’s impact.
They emphasized the need for collaborative efforts in caring for “Our Common Home” and documenting individual stories to inspire collective action.
The group stressed the urgency of addressing social and environmental degradation, citing water and air pollution, indiscriminate refuse dumping, and destructive galamsey activities as pressing concerns. Urging JPIC coordinators and the wider human family to confront the challenges with discernment and strategic planning.
