The Ghana National Catholic Youth Council (GHANCYC) has launched its 50th Anniversary and the 5th Ghana Version of the World Youth Day celebration in the Catholic Diocese of Sunyani.
The celebration is on the theme, GHANCYC @ 50: Fostering the Growth of the Catholic Youth through Collaborative Ministry and Shaping Peaceful Elections’.
The celebration will commence on Friday, 30th August to Sunday 8th September 2024 at the Catholic University in Fiapre- Sunyani.
The celebration will involve the entire Catholic Youth of Ghana coming together to exhibit their faith through Mass, catechesis, evangelization, adoration, float, quizzes and other activities in all ArchDioceses, Dioceses and Vicariate to promote a peaceful election in 2024.
Mathias Justice Waliba the Chairperson of GHANCYC urged young people not to allow themselves to be influenced by politicians to cause violence during the upcoming elections.
GHANCYC was established in 1974 through the instrumentality of the ‘Servant of God’ Peter Cardinal Poreku Derry. The council was created by the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference to coordinate the activities and efforts of various youth organisations and ArchDioceses, Dioceses and Vicariate Youth Councils in the Catholic Church, in rendering service to young people, the church and the country as a whole.
GHANCYC also serves as the official mouthpiece for Catholic Youth in Ghana.
