The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC) kicked off its May Plenary on a proactive note, engaging in vital discussions and interactions with key stakeholders from various sectors.
Presided over by Most Rev. Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, Bishop of Sunyani Diocese and President of the GCBC, the opening ceremony saw a convergence of bishops and officials at the Pope St John Paul II Chapel, National Catholic Secretariat (NCS), Accra, on Tuesday, 7th May 2024.
The day commenced with a solemn Mass led by Bishop Gyamfi, who emphasised the significance of the upcoming Jubilee Year 2025 to the Universal Church and the various Jubilees to be celebrated.
In his address, Bishop Gyamfi called upon the entire Catholic community to partake in prayer activities, including pilgrimages and reflections, rooted in the rich tradition of the Church.
Following the Mass, the conference transitioned into sessions at the Pope St. John Paul II Conference Hall, where the agenda for the plenary unfolded.
Among the highlights of the day were interactive sessions with Catholic Parliamentarians, officials from the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) focusing on tax education, and representatives from the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) discussing their work in relation with the upcoming general elections among others.
The May Plenary provides a platform for the presentation of reports from various departments, directorates, and units of the Church in Ghana, reflecting on the previous year’s activities and outlining plans for the year ahead.
