Following the announcement of Rev. Fr. Francis Bomansaan, M.Afr as the new bishop for the Catholic Diocese of Wa, the National Union of Ghana Catholic Diocesan Priests Associations (NUGCDPA) has extended their heartfelt congratulations and pledged their unwavering support.
This news marks a significant moment, as Fr. Bomansaan is a member of the Missionaries of Africa, the same congregation to which the late bishop, Cardinal Richard Kuuia Baawobr, belonged.
The congratulatory message, shared on the Union’s official handle, praised Fr. Bomansaan for his appointment and expressed firm support for his new role. Very Rev. Fr. Thaddeus Kuusah, President of NUGCDPA, stated, “On behalf of the National Union of Ghana Catholic Diocesan Priests Associations, I congratulate you, Rev. Fr. Francis Bomansaan, M.Afr., Vice Superior General of the Missionaries of Africa, on your appointment as the Bishop-Elect of the Catholic Diocese of Wa. As a Union, we pledge our unflinching support to you. We know that God will surely use you to accomplish His will for His Church. May St. Rita of Cascia, whose Memorial we celebrate today, continue to journey with you. Once again, congratulations!”
The Apostolic Nunciature in Ghana announced earlier today, May 22 that His Holiness Pope Francis has appointed Rev. Fr. Francis Bomansaan as the new bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Wa. The Diocese has been vacant since November 2022, following the passing of Cardinal Richard Kuuia Baawobr. Fr. Bomansaan’s close association with the late Cardinal through their shared congregation is seen as a continuation of the legacy left behind.
Fr. Bomansaan, born on January 19th, 1962, has had a distinguished career within the Missionaries of Africa. He has served as Vice Superior General of the Missionaries of Africa in Rome since 2022. His previous roles include managing the Bethany Centre, a recovery center for priests and religious individuals, serving as Novice Master at the International English Speaking Novitiate in Kasama, Zambia, and holding leadership positions within the Ghana/Nigeria Province.
His educational background includes studies in psycho-spiritual counseling and addiction recovery in Chicago, spiritual accompaniment in Liverpool, and religious formation and leadership in Dublin. These diverse experiences equip him well for his new responsibilities as bishop.
The Catholic community in Wa and beyond looks forward to the positive impact of Fr. Bomansaan’s leadership.
Further details about his vision for the diocese and the date of his installation ceremony will be announced soon.
This appointment brings hope for renewed growth and spiritual guidance under the new bishop’s leadership. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
