Thousands of Catholics from St. Cecelia Catholic Church, Mangu, took to the main streets of Wa to commemorate the feast of Corpus Christi today.
The procession commenced at the church, with parishioners making intermittent stops to pay homage to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament of the Altar.
During the Eucharistic celebration, Rev. Fr. Titus Maaseg urged parishioners to have deep love and devotion for Jesus in the Eucharist.
Describing the Eucharist as the heart of Christian Worship, he called the faithful to understand that in the Eucharist, Christ offers His body to us as the food of life.
Also known as the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, this feast honors Jesus Christ, Really, Truly and Substantially Present under the appearances of bread and wine.
This Presence happens through the change which the Church calls transubstantiation (“change of substance”), when at the Consecration of the Mass, the priest says the words which Christ Himself pronounced over bread and wine, “This is My Body,” “This is the chalice of My Blood,” “Do this in remembrance of Me.”
In 2024, the Solemnity of Corpus Christi is on May 30, but it is transferred to Sunday, June 2 in some dioceses.
