The Catholic Diocese of Wa has announced that bishop-elect Rev. Father Francis Bomansaan, M.Afr., will be ordained in August. Appointed by His Holiness Pope Francis, Father Bomansaan currently serves as the Vice Superior General of the Missionaries of Africa.
The Episcopal Ordination will take place on Friday, 2nd August 2024, at the Upper West Sports Stadium in Wa, beginning at 9:30 a.m. The following day, a Thanksgiving Mass will be celebrated at St. Andrew’s Catholic Cathedral in Wa, also at 9:30 a.m.
Very Rev. Fr. Cornelius Naah Bayirinoba, the Diocesan Administrator, extended his warm regards and gratitude to the faithful for their attention and support during this important time. He assured the community of his prayers as they prepare to welcome their new bishop.
The appointment was announced on Wednesday, 22nd May 2024, in Rome and simultaneously at the Apostolic Nunciature in Ghana and at the National Catholic Secretariat (NCS) in Accra. The announcement was made by the Secretary General of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC), Very Rev. Fr. Clement Kwasi Adjei, at the Pope St. John Paul II Conference Hall, NCS, Accra.
Born on 19th January 1962, Rev. Fr. Bomansaan took his final oath into the Society of Missionaries of Africa (White Fathers) in 1990 and was ordained into the priesthood on 27th July 1991. From 2022 until his recent appointment, he served as the Superior General of the Missionaries of Africa in Rome, Italy.
