Chairman of the Roman Ridge School and former MD of Cal Bank, Mr. Frank Adu, Jr has emphasized the importance of adopting what he termed a “cathedral mentality” in the pursuit of success.
Addressing the inaugural youth dialogue series of the Arrupe Jesuit Institute on the theme, “Heaven Knows Where We Are Going” on June 1 at the University of Ghana Catholic Chaplaincy, Legon, Mr. Adu urged young people to embrace hard work, perseverance, and a long-term vision for their ambitions.
Highlighting the enduring legacy of Europe’s historic cathedrals, Adu drew parallels between their centuries-long construction and the journey toward personal and professional fulfillment. “Every European city had a cathedral of note,” he remarked.
“These were all magnificent structures. The interesting thing I noticed was that all these cathedrals were built over decades, some over a hundred years.” He stressed the significance of understanding that many of those who initiated these grand projects knew they wouldn’t witness their completion. Yet, they commenced the work, laying the groundwork for future generations to fulfill their vision.
“Develop a cathedral mentality, think long term, think hard work, and think perseverance and persistence,” Adu advised the audience. “Work assiduously and purposefully towards it.” His words resonated deeply with attendees, challenging them to embrace the ethos of sustained effort and dedication in their pursuits.
The “Conversations That Matter” series aims to empower Ghana’s youth to engage with fundamental issues of virtue, values, and principles, fostering a citizenry committed to active democratic participation. Through diverse perspectives and backgrounds, the initiative seeks to cultivate a generation capable of navigating life’s complexities with wisdom and resilience.
