Bishop of the Jasikan Diocese, Most Rev. Gabriel Ababio Mante has described the inaugural lecture delivered by his former student, Rev. Fr. Prof. Michael P.K. Okyerefo, as one of the most compelling he has encountered in recent times.
Speaking in an interview with Catholic Trends Bishop Mante said “He is one of the best I have listened to in recent times,” Bishop Mante stated, reflecting on the lecture titled “The Autobiographical Self as an Object for Sociological Enquiry,” which took place on July 25, 2024, at the Great Hall.
He lauded Fr. Prof. Okyerefo for the clarity and impact of his presentation, noting, “He was clear. And the three points he set out to present also came out clearly.”
The Bishop particularly appreciated Fr. Prof. Okyerefo’s emphasis on the diverse nature of knowledge. “I particularly liked that part where he emphasised that knowledge is not a monopoly of any particular group in the world. But depends on the cultural context and framework,” Bishop Mante remarked.
He highlighted the significance of viewing knowledge through the lens of individual biography and its role in shaping both the individual and the broader community.
The lecture, which marked the final inaugural address for the 2023/2024 academic year, explored the intersection of personal experience and sociological analysis, contributing a fresh perspective to the field. Fr. Prof. Okyerefo, a distinguished academic in the Department of Sociology and former Head of the Department and Dean of the School of Arts, addressed an audience keenly engaged with his insights.
