The Vicar-General of the Ho Catholic Diocese, Very Rev. Fr. Walter Agbetto, on Thursday, July 25, 2024, led a groundbreaking ceremony for the St. Augustine’s Catholic Chaplaincy Chapel project at Ho Technical University. This marked the beginning of the construction of a dedicated chapel for the university community, a project long in the making.
The proposed chapel project features an 800-seat main hall, a gallery, a 150-seater meeting room, church office, vestry, sacristy with washroom, meditation/prayer room, changing closet, grotto, general washroom, water reservoir, and parking area.
Fr. Agbetto expressed gratitude to the university for allowing the church to establish a presence on campus, stating, “It is the Church’s desire to bring Christ to wherever people are gathered.” He blessed the project site and assured those present that, with God’s help, the project would be completed on schedule. Joining him were Rev. Frs. David Zatey, Diocesan finance administrator; Fr. John Peter Agagee, UHAS Chaplain; Fr. Samuel Eco Kornu, DEPSOCOM Director; and the Diocesan Development officer.
Prof. Ben Honyenuga, Vice-Chancellor of HTU, welcomed the church’s presence on campus, noting its integral role in the institution since its inception. He commended the University Chaplain for mobilizing resources and hoped for completion during his tenure.
Rev. Fr. Sylvester Agbezuge, the Chaplain, expressed joy and gratitude for the project’s commencement, thanking contributors and appealed for further support towards its completion. University officials, including Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. Christopher Mensah, Registrar Dr. Christopher Amehoe, Director of Finance Mr. Kwame Owusu, and congregants of the chaplaincy, witnessed the groundbreaking ceremony, a significant milestone in the chaplaincy’s development.
