The Catholic Archdiocese of Benin City in Nigeria is mourning the loss of its Emeritus Archbishop, Patrick Ebosele Ekpu, who passed away on August 6, 2024, at the age of 92.
He is said to have died following a brief illness on Tuesday.
Archbishop Ekpu’s passing was confirmed by the Chancellor of the Catholic Archdiocese of Benin City, Very Rev. Fr. Michael Oyanoafoh.
In a statement released to the clergy and faithful, Fr. Oyanoafoh noted that “Archbishop Patrick Ebosele Ekpu, Emeritus Archbishop of Benin City Archdiocese died at the age of 92 after a brief illness.”
The announcement revealed that Archbishop Ekpu died at 7:09 p.m. on August 6. “Details of his funeral arrangement will be made known later,” Fr. Oyanoafoh added, encouraging the community to keep the late Archbishop in their prayers.
The Archdiocese has asked the faithful to remember Archbishop Ekpu in their prayers.
