The city of Accra is set to welcome a vibrant gathering of young Catholic adults from Ghana and Nigeria for the second MAGIS Encounter, an event dedicated to deepening faith and exploring Ignatian Spirituality.
Organized by the Youth Office of the North-West Africa Province of the Society of Jesus, the MAGIS Encounter aims to foster an understanding of Ignatian Spirituality while addressing contemporary issues through Catholic social teaching.
Scheduled to run from August 22-25, 2024, the event will feature a series of workshops, experiential learning activities, and spiritual exercises designed to equip young people with the tools necessary for effective community engagement and personal growth.
Director of Youth Apostolate for the North-West Africa Province of the Society of Jesus, Rev. Fr. Eyrah Foli, SJ, in an interview with Catholic Trends, highlighted the event’s core objectives.
“Our goal is to empower young people by deepening their spiritual understanding and enhancing their leadership skills. The MAGIS Encounter will provide a platform for critical reflection and practical application of Ignatian principles in today’s world,” he said.
He added that the event’s methodology emphasises active participation and networking, offering attendees the chance to build lasting relationships with peers and mentors. This collaborative environment aims to cultivate a strong network of young leaders committed to making a positive impact on their communities.
The experience is also expected to contribute to the creation of a supportive network of young leaders dedicated to serving others and addressing global challenges.
