The Parish Youth Council (PYC) of Our Lady of Mercy (OLAM) Parish Tema, has launched the OLAM Youth Excellence Awards, an initiative designed to honor and celebrate the outstanding achievements of young people within the parish.
The event, attended by parishioners, parents, and youth, marked the beginning of a new tradition dedicated to recognizing the exceptional talents, dedication, and service of the parish’s youth.
The Parish Priest, along with his Associate and the Parish Pastoral Council, expressed their enthusiasm for the initiative, emphasizing the pivotal role of youth in the life of the church. “This award scheme is not just an event; it is the dawn of a tradition—a tradition that honors the exceptional talents, dedication, and service of our young people,” they stated in their address.
The PYC outlined ten award categories, including Most Vibrant Youth Society, Most Talented Youth, Most Outstanding Youth, Dedicated Youth Executive, Most Promising Youth, Youth Activist of the Year, Male Youth of the Year, Female Youth of the Year, as well as two special categories: the Lifetime Achievement Award (Elderly Youth) and Most Supportive Adult Group.
These categories have been carefully curated to celebrate various facets of excellence, inspiring the entire parish community to strive for greatness.
Parishioners were encouraged to participate actively in the nomination process by visiting the nomination desk set up at the Parish. Nominations, which are open until September, can be submitted for a small fee of GHC 5.00. The shortlisted nominees will be unveiled in September, followed by a voting process that includes both digital and manual options.
The awards will culminate in a grand event on November 30th, aptly named “Cena Gaudii,” meaning “A Banquet of Joy.” This elegant dinner will be a night of celebration, bringing together the parish community to honor the achievements of the youth in a festive atmosphere filled with fine dining, joyful fellowship, and unforgettable moments.
The success of the OLAM Youth Excellence Awards will depend heavily on the support and participation of the entire parish. “We invite parents and families to contribute and extend their support to make this event a resounding success,” the PYC urged, highlighting the importance of community involvement.
