The Northern Regional Minister, Hon. Alhaji Shani Alhassan Shaibu, expressed his deep appreciation for the Catholic Church’s significant contributions to peace-building and development in a solidarity message delivered on his behalf at the 10th National Sacred Heart of Jesus Congress in Tamale.
In his address, Hon. Alhaji Shani Alhassan Shaibu commended the Church for fostering religious diversity and unity in Ghana, particularly in Tamale. “The role of the Church in peace-building and development in Ghana and Tamale in particular cannot be overemphasized,” he stated. “The Church has greatly worked in fostering religious diversity and unity in the Nation, which has promoted peaceful coexistence among all religious groups.”
The Minister highlighted the Church’s extensive development projects, noting its impact across various sectors such as health, education, and economic empowerment, particularly for women. “The evidence of what I have said about development projects abound in Tamale and the Northern Region as a whole,” he affirmed.
Hon. Shaibu also underscored the Church’s efforts to ensure a free, fair, and violence-free general election in December 2024, urging attendees to keep peace and security as a focus of their prayers.
He concluded by pledging the support of the Regional Coordinating Council to the Catholic Church’s initiatives. “On this note, I wish you a very successful conference and may the Almighty God accept our prayers and grant our individual aspirations and that of the country at large,” he said.
