In an address to the members of the Pax Romana International Movement of Catholic Students on September 20, 2024, Pope Francis intimated the importance of young people engaging in the Church’s synodal journey.
The audience, held at the Vatican, highlighted the role of youth in fostering unity, social justice, and global citizenship.
Pope Francis, referencing the ongoing Synod on Synodality, called on the students to actively participate in the process of “walking together” through open dialogue and discernment. “I would like to encourage you to take an active part in the entire Church’s synodal journey of ‘walking together,’ listening, participating, and engaging in open and discerning dialogue,” he said.
The Pope also commended Pax Romana for fostering a sense of global citizenship, citing their work in various parts of the world. As he observed, the group, over the years, has empowered young people to promote impactful change in their local communities. “Pax Romana has played a crucial role in bridging the gap between Catholic social teaching and real-world action.” the Holy Father added.
The Pope’s message reflected the broader goals of the Church, encouraging young Catholics to engage not only in faith-based discussions but also to be active participants in societal change through education, leadership, and service.
