The Ghana Region of the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary will commemorate their 100th anniversary on October 5, 2024, at the St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Donkorkrom.
The celebration will be presided over by Most Rev. John Alphonse Asiedu, SVD, in recognition of the sisters’ century-long commitment to serving humanity through various ministries.
Founded in 1924 in Killeshandra, Ireland, by Bishop Joseph Shanahan, the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary have dedicated their mission to empowering women and serving the marginalized. With a strong presence in several countries, including Ghana, the sisters have been instrumental in improving healthcare, education, and human dignity.
In Ghana, the Missionary Sisters have been pivotal in uplifting communities, particularly in rural areas. Their efforts include providing healthcare services through clinics and hospitals, promoting education, combating human trafficking, communicating, and offering pastoral ministry. Their work focuses on empowering women and girls by offering opportunities for education and healthcare, ensuring that vulnerable populations receive the support they need.
The 100th-anniversary celebration will serve as an opportunity for the Missionary Sisters to raise funds to extend their Chapel and further enhance their enduring impact and commitment to their mission.
The Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary remain a powerful example of faith in action, touching countless lives over the past century. The upcoming anniversary celebration will honor their legacy and inspire the continuation of their work in the years to come.
