Charge d’Affaires of the Apostolic Nunciature in Accra, Msgr. Maher Chammas has met members of AcrossFaith to discuss strategies for promoting peace in Ghana.
The meeting which took place at the Nunciature in Accra on October 21, aimed to consolidate efforts to maintain the peace Ghana enjoys ahead of the December elections
Joined by the Executive Secretary of the Department of Pastoral Ministry and Evangelization of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, Very Rev. Fr. Gabriel Kojovi Liashiedzi, the meeting emphasized collaboration among diverse faith communities.
The president of AcrossFaith, Rt. Rev. Emmanuel Borlabi Bortey, articulated the organization’s mission, highlighting their commitment to promoting “love, unity, and understanding.”
He noted that the collaboration aims to strengthen the bonds between different religious groups and cultivate a culture of peace.
For his part, Very Rev. Fr. Gabriel Kojovi Liashiedzi reinforced the idea that promoting peace is a collective responsibility for all believers, regardless of their faith. He quoted the words of Christ after His resurrection: “‘Peace be with you'” (Jn 20:19), stressing the importance of peace in both personal and communal life.
Fr. Liashiedzi also outlined the steps being taken by the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference to advance Ecumenism and Inter-Religious Dialogue.
He noted that a peaceful nation is defined not only by the absence of conflict but also by the availability and affordability of life’s basic needs, urging all stakeholders to work together towards these goals.
