As Ghana approaches another election season, the political atmosphere has grown increasingly tense, with candidates and political actors actively campaigning across the country.
In light of these heightened tensions, the Catholic Bishop of Wiawso, Most Rev. Samuel Nkuah-Boateng, has issued an exhortation to all clergy, religious, and laity, urging them to prioritise peace, unity, and respect for the law ahead of the December elections.
In his message, released on November 5, 2024, Bishop Nkuah-Boateng called on all to uphold the core values of democracy by conducting themselves with the utmost integrity and responsibility.
“May we not do anything untoward in these trying moments of our democratic journey but rather assume the status of a pacifist Ambassador, whose sole responsibility is to stand for peace in all situations and circumstances,” he said.
The Bishop emphasised that, as citizens and members of the Church, Ghanaians are tasked with being peaceful ambassadors during this critical time in the country’s political journey. “As God’s beloved Family, our dear Nation, Ghana, looks up to us for God’s direction, guidance, and will,” he added.
He further reminded the faithful that it is their duty to support Ghana’s democratic institutions, including the President, the Electoral Commission, and the media, with prayers and positive actions. “We are obliged to ennoble our democratic values,” he stated. “This can be achieved when as individuals we champion the cause of peace in all our endeavours.”
The Bishop also called for prayers for the nation, its leaders, and its citizens. He urged the faithful to pray for the President, all presidential and parliamentary candidates, the judiciary, and the media, asking for God’s guidance and protection during the election process. “May Mary, our Mother, intercede for us as a Country, before, during, and after elections,” he concluded, invoking divine protection and wisdom for Ghana during this critical time.
