Catholic Bishop of the Keta-Akatsi Diocese, Most Rev. Gabriel Edoe Kumordji has called on Catholic Christians to reflect on the disconnect between fervent religious activity and genuine transformation in society.
In a November 3 address during the 80th Anniversary Celebration and Thanksgiving Mass of the Knights of St. John International (KSJI), Sacred Heart Commandery Number 351 in Accra, Bishop Kumordji lamented that despite the intense religious fervor in the country, many Ghanaians still struggle with societal divisions and conflicts.
“We are very religious people and we find all our churches vibrating with all-nights and prayers and yet our lives have not changed,” he said.
He urged the faithful to go beyond religious rituals and allow God’s love to transform their hearts and relationships. “If we say we love God, then why do divisions persist among us?” he asked. “God should be the lens through which we see others. He must be first and foremost in our lives.”
Drawing from the teachings of Jesus in the Gospel of Mark, Bishop Kumordji noted the importance of loving one another to the point of sacrifice, just as Christ gave His life for humanity.
He averred that the love of God must be the central force in life, transcending personal attachments and divisions that can hinder unity and peace.
