President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, Most Rev. Matthew Gyamfi has expressed confidence in the leadership of two new bishops attending the annual plenary of the Episcopal Conference for the first time.
Most Rev. John Opoku-Agyemang of the Konongo-Mampong Diocese and Most Rev. Francis Bomansaan, M.Af. of the Wa Diocese were warmly welcomed by their fellow bishops, who look to their leadership to guide the Church in Ghana to greater faith and unity.
Speaking at the opening of the 2024 plenary on November 11, Bishop Gyamfi expressed that the Dioceses of Konongo-Mampong and Wa must be proud to have them as their Chief Shepherds.
“We are confident that your leadership will inspire and guide our communities toward greater faith and unity,” He praised the new bishops for their dedication and service, noting that their appointments reflect their commitment to the Church and the faithful.
Bishop Gyamfi assured them of the Conference’s support and prayers as they take on their new responsibilities as shepherds of their dioceses.
The Plenary Assembly, which runs through November 15, is being held in the Catholic Diocese of Obuasi and is focused on the theme “Jubilee Year: A Time to Proclaim Christ, Hope for the Church and Ghana.”
Bishop Opoku-Agyemang and Bishop Bomansaan were ordained to the episcopacy in 2024—Opoku-Agyemang on June 7 and Bomansaan on August 2—and are attending their first plenary assembly as members of the GCBC.
