The Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, C.S.Sp, has called upon all Catholics in the Archdiocese of Accra to join in a powerful spiritual initiative to ensure peaceful, transparent, free and fair elections in the country.
In a communique addressed to all Priests, Religious, and lay faithful Archbishop Kwofie urged the faithful to participate in a Novena to Divine Mercy, which will begin on Wednesday, November 27 and ends on Friday, December 6, 2024.
The Archbishop emphasized the importance of preparing spiritually as the nation approaches the upcoming elections. The Novena, a nine-day period of prayer and reflection, is intended to seek God’s mercy and protection, and to foster peace during this critical time in the country’s democratic process.
In his message, Archbishop Kwofie expressed hope that through prayer, the Church can help ensure a peaceful electoral process, free from violence, manipulation, and other forms of unrest.
He specifically called on priests and religious leaders within the Archdiocese to announce and organize the Novena in all parishes, encouraging widespread participation across the Archdiocese.
The Archdiocese of Accra, which serves as the religious heart of the Catholic church in Ghana’s capital, has always been a leading voice in promoting social harmony and national unity. With the elections fast approaching, this prayer initiative aims to ensure that the electoral process is conducted with integrity, and that peace reigns in the country throughout the process.
