Pope Francis has appointed Fr. Constantine Rupiny as the new Bishop of the Diocese of Nebbi, Uganda. His appointment was announced on November 26 by the Vatican.
Prior to his appointment, Fr. Rupiny was the rector of the Uganda Martyrs’ National Major Seminary of Alokolum in the Archdiocese of Gulu.
Fr. Rupiny, born on November 10, 1974, in Parombo within the Diocese of Nebbi, has a distinguished academic and pastoral background.
He completed his philosophy studies at the Uganda Martyrs’ National Major Seminary of Alokolum (1996-1999) and furthered his theological education at Saint Mary’s National Major Seminary of Ggaba in the Archdiocese of Kampala (2000-2004).
He later earned a licentiate in philosophy from the Pontifical Urbaniana University of Rome (2009-2011) and a doctorate in dogmatic theology from the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw, Poland (2018-2022).
Ordained a priest on August 28, 2004, Fr. Rupiny has held several important positions in the Church. He served as parish vicar of Kango (2004-2005), parish priest of Akanyo (2005-2007), and formator and professor at the Uganda Martyrs’ National Major Seminary of Alokolum (2007-2009 and 2011-2018).
He also served as vice president of the Presbyteral Council of Nebbi from 2017 to 2018 and as vice rector of the seminary in 2023, before being appointed rector.
