The Most Reverend Emmanuel Kofi Fianu, S.V.D., Catholic Bishop of Ghana’s Ho Diocese, has commissioned two borehole projects in the communities of Have Ando 2 in Afadzato South District and Asikuma in the Asuogyaman district.
The projects were funded through the generosity of some Ghanaian Catholics in the United Kingdom, including St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, Woolwich-London and Madam Regina Cho in Los Angeles, California, USA.
Speaking at the commissioning, Bishop Fianu noted that the beneficiary communities have been struggling with water scarcity for several years and are in dire need of potable water. He emphasized that the boreholes will provide safe and clean drinking water to the residents, improving their quality of life and addressing a critical need.
He urged the Local Pastoral Council of each community to establish management committees to oversee the proper maintenance of the boreholes, ensuring they benefit everyone, including adjoining areas.
“Access to clean water has ripple effects on health, education, and social development and is fundamental to the well-being of everyone,” the Bishop said.
“The provision of these boreholes to the two Catholic communities is not only a practical solution to the water crisis but also a spiritual blessing, reflecting God’s providence through the generosity of others.”
Mr. Maxwell Ahialedzi, the Local Parish Pastoral Council Chairman of Have Ando 2 expressed deep gratitude to the donors and the Diocesan Development Office for their support in making the boreholes a reality. The council pledged to ensure the facilities are well-maintained and utilized for the benefit of all.
They also appealed to other benevolent individuals and organizations for further assistance in constructing a teachers’ bungalow, which would help accommodate teachers posted to the schools in the village. Many teachers currently travel long distances to reach the schools, adversely affecting effective teaching and learning.
Additionally, they called for help to complete their church building, which would provide a serene and dignified environment for worship.
