The National Catholic Bioethics Center (NCBC) in the USA has announced the appointment of Dr. John A. Di Camillo as its 7th president, effective January 1, 2025.
Dr. Di Camillo’s appointment follows a six-month national search and comes after a period of interim leadership by Dr. John Haas, the Centre’s former president.
Dr. Di Camillo, who has been with the NCBC since 2011, has played a key role in shaping the Centre’s efforts to address complex bioethical issues. Notably, he led the creation of the NCBC’s Personal Consultations Department in 2022, which provides free 24/7 ethical guidance to individuals and healthcare professionals.
His success in this role, combined with his proven leadership in fundraising and collaboration, made him the ideal candidate to lead the organisation forward.
“We have long been impressed by Dr. Di Camillo’s work and leadership,” said Archbishop Gregory Aymond, Chairman of the NCBC Board of Directors. “He is a person of deep faith, dedication, and expertise—qualities that will be crucial as he steers the Centre to new levels of excellence.”
Dr. Di Camillo succeeds Dr. Joseph Meaney, who led the NCBC from 2019 to 2024. Dr. Meaney was instrumental in expanding the Centre’s outreach, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. He expressed his confidence in Dr. Di Camillo’s leadership, praising his ability to navigate complex ethical issues and mentor the next generation of ethicists.
A summa cum laude graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Di Camillo holds advanced degrees in bioethics from the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum in Rome. He is also a recognised voice in Catholic bioethics, regularly presenting at conferences and working with Church leaders to provide ethical guidance on critical issues.
